Adult Swim’s wacky procedural NTSF:SD:SUV:: has been renewed for a second season. The comedy spoof on shows like CSI, Criminal Minds, Law & Order and NCIS, stars creator Paul Scheer, Rebecca Romijn, Brandon Johnson and Kate Mulgrew. Mulgrew, who wore an eye patch in the first season, played Captain Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager.
“The ratings have consistently built throughout the first season and we love what we’re seeing from the show, and how can you not love SUVs?” Adult Swim’s Mike Lazzo is quoted as saying by The Hollywood Reporter.
NTSF:SD:SUV:: stands for National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle. The show’s over-the-top, often hilarious and sometimes surreal 15-minutes episodes focus on a clandestine group of government agents based in a hi-tech facility in San Diego. They’ll stop at nothing to prevent terrorists out of “such evil countries as Mexico, Canada [and] Guam” from attacking America. According to the official description:
This team of highly trained operatives has only one job: saving your ass so you can drive your Prius and see your movies in 3-D without worrying about living in a country run by no-good terrorists.
“I’m very excited to continue to punch, shoot, stab and run people over with lawnmowers and get paid for it.” Scheer said, speaking about the renewal.
NTSF:SD:SUV:: airs on Adult Swim on Thursdays at 12:15 am. You can read our interview with Kate Mulgrew about her role in the series here. To get a taste of the show, check out the video below.
