Stallone’s ‘Cliffhanger’ Getting a Remake

It's been a whole 16 years since Sylvester Stallone hung from the ice-covered rock faces of Colorado in Cliffhanger. In Hollywood years, however, that's apparently damned near a generation, and so, Cliffhanger is now old enough to warrant a remake…make that reboot.

StudioCanal has announced that it will be teaming with Neal Moritz's production company to reboot Stallone's 1993 film. The plan is to take the original Renny Harlin-directed film and turn it into a big-budget thriller that will center on a group of young climbers.

"Just as they rebooted 'Star Trek,' we're going to do the same with 'Cliffhanger,'" said Moritz, who will produce. Unlike the original, where Italy stood in for the Colorado Rockies, the new film looks set to feature multiple cliff-face locations.

The film is targeting a 2010 shooting date, though a screenwriter is yet to be attached to the project.
