FOX Sets Dates for 'Human Target' Debut; '24' Return
Network anxious to maintain its genre offerings

FOX may have given Joss Whedon's Dollhouse the axe (the series will air its finale at 9pm, Jan. 22), but that doesn't mean it's turning its back on science fiction/fantasy. With ABC broadcasting FlashForward, V and Lost...and NBC still chugging along with Heroes (though this may well be the final year), the network Rupert Murdoch built on the back of The X-Files is anxious to maintain a strong roster of genre programming.Fringe is presently holding up the genre mantle on FOX, but it will soon be joined by two new series, Human Target and Past Life, both of which fall squarely in the genre fold and both of which have now finally gotten official premiere dates from the network.
Human Target tells the cases of a unique bodyguard/private detective who interferes with murder attempts by impersonating the intended victims to draw the killers' fire. The series stars former Fringe cast member Mark Valley and features a guest role by Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer. The series will take the Wednesday 9pm slot beginning Jan. 20.
Then, when Fringe goes on hiatus after its Feb. 4 episode, the network will debut Past Life with a two-hour premiere on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 8pm, before settling into its 9pm slot on Feb. 18. Past Life is a supernatural series about an unlikely pair of past-life detectives who investigate whether what is happening to you today is the result of who you were before.
Fringe will return on Thursday, April 1, after Past Life completes its run.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Jan. 17, 24 returns at 9pm, with the first half of its two-night, four-hour season premiere. The series, which adds new cast members Freddie Prinze Jr. and Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff, will also air for two hours on Monday, Jan. 18, before settling into its normal 9pm time slot on Jan. 25.
