Kevin Spacey Wants 'Superman Returns' Sequel
But does anybody else...?

Kevin Spacey wants another crack at killing the Man of Steel.

Now if only Warner Brothers would bite. Recently, the star of The Usual Suspects and American Beauty stated that if he had his way, he’d be reprising the role of Lex Luthor for a Superman Returns follow-up.

"If I ran Warner Brothers I could tell you definitively we’d be making that movie," Spacey said. "But I don’t, and they haven’t called me to tell me."

The 2006 superhero adaptation was heavily-hyped, but not a big money-maker. For a while, Ninja Assassin director James McTeigue had expressed an interest in replacing director Bryan Singer, and subsequently rebooting the franchise.

But DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson recently said the company does not have "any current plans for Superman," and McTeigue has moved on, claiming executives are unsure what direction to take the franchise.

Unfortunately for fans of the character, Spacey does not appear to have any additional insight. "I don’t know what the situation is," he told MTV Splash Page. "If they do it again and Bryan directs, I’d be delighted to come along for the ride. But who knows?"

Spacey himself has directed a few well-received films, include the 1997 thriller Albino Alligator. Could it be that Keyser Soze is angling to helm the next Superman installment himself? (Without naming names, there were, in fact, worse choices attached to the last Superman movie.) It’s an interesting possibility, but more likely, Warner Brothers is going to wait to see how Green Lantern does in theaters, or for Singer to make his big comeback with another 'X-Men' movie, at which point he’ll be back on-board.

Meanwhile, what do you readers think of Spacey portraying Lex Luthor again? Is it time for someone else to play Superman’s bald, brainy nemesis?
