'Hornet' Production Starts; Wilkinson, Harbour In
But Cage still a wild card
By Phil Guie | Friday, September 4, 2009
With all the talk of Cameron Diaz, Jay Chou, and Edward James Olmos joining the cast of The Green Hornet, a few additions managed to float in under the radar. Luckily, Columbia Pictures sent out a press release announcing the start of production, which brought some new facts to light. Now it looks like Tom Wilkinson and David Harbour are on-board as well, while Nicolas Cage is mentioned as being "in negotiations to appear." Cage had been in talks to play the Green Hornet's gangster nemesis since July, so this could be a sign he's gun shy about the project (which is kind of understandable, since in theory, it would require that he lose out to Seth Rogen).
In addition, Olmos' participation in the film, to be directed by Michel Gondry from a script by Rogen and Evan Goldberg, had been previously rumored but unconfirmed. The film, which will star Rogen as the titular hero, was rescheduled recently for a December 17, 2010 release.
Harbour has been a rising star of late, appearing in Revolutionary Road and Quantum of Solace, while Wilkinson is an accomplished stage and film actor with two Academy Award nominations to his name, for Michael Clayton and In the Bedroom. No word yet what their roles in The Green Hornet might be.
