Stargate: Universe, the latest addition to the Vancouver-shot Stargate franchise, is to take a break from shooting in CinemaSpy's home city to do some filming in New Mexico. Local newspapers are saying that the shooting will take place in Alamogordo. State Governer Bill Richardson announced the decision. According to the Las Cruces Sun-News, the shooting will take place in late April through early May and will provide employment to at least 75 local crew members.

The cast of Stargate: Universe includes Scottish actor Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty, The World is Not Enough), Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba) and Justin Louis (1-800-Missing). It is not know which members of the cast will be involved in the New Mexico shoot. Regular Stargate helmer Andy Mikiti has been named as the director.

Stargate: Universe is about a group of explorers stranded on an alien spacecraft named Destiny. It is set to debut on SCI FI Channel in the Fall. It is the third television spin-off from the 1994 science fiction film Stargate, following Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis.

In other Stargate news, the website tvshowsondvd.com is reporting that the fifth and final season of Stargate: Atlantis is to be released on DVD on June 30th. Full details of the contents of the five-disc set have not been released but readers can get preliminary news of the specs here.
