J.K. Simmons on 'Spider-Man 4'
Plus director Raimi on possible villain

One of the most inspired pieces of casting in any comic book-to-superhero film has been J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man. He looks like Jameson, he talks like Jameson...and for millions of fans, he pretty much IS Jameson.

It makes sense, then, that he will return to the role in 2010, when shooting begins on Spider-Man 4. At the 25th annual Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, the actor confirmed to MTV that the Daily Bugle major domo will indeed be back to torment Peter Parker and disparage his web-slinging alter-ego.

Apparently Simmons spoke with Raimi at a Christmas party in '08 and learned firsthand of his return.

Meanwhile, if you hadn't heard already (and WE had, we're just late reporting it), Sam Raimi told Empire magazine who he'd like to see as the villain in Spider-Man 4. "I like it in the Marvel comics when Spider-Man fights Morbius," Raimi told the magazine. "He’s really cool. A vampire! I like that combination of superhero plus supernatural."

It does sound fascinating, though Morbius' emergence as a 'vampire' is reminiscent of things we've recently seen in cinematic form, such as Robert Neville in I Am Legend. Morbius is a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist who suffers from a rare blood disease, and after experiments with vampire bats and electroshock therapy, suddenly finds himself with superhuman strength and a bloodlust akin to what mythological vampires suffer.

Actually, come to think of it, in the hands of Raimi, himself no stranger to horror, this could be very cool!
