Two years after the cult-hit comedy Arrested Development was canceled by Fox, the network has signed the show's star, Jason Bateman, to a one-year, first-look deal. According to Variety, the deal will give Fox exclusive rights to anything coming out of Bateman's F+A production company.
"I'm an avid consumer of television, and I've got varying tastes," Bateman said, explaining that he would like to pattern his career after Arrested Development's producer Ron Howard, who also made the leap from actor to producer. "It's an ambitious and long-term goal."
Bateman has said that he already has a number of ideas, and plans on meeting with some writers over the coming weeks.
In addition to this deal, Bateman will also be directing the upcoming Fox series Do Not Disturb, as well as starring in several films, including the upcoming Will Smith super-hero flick Hancock, and the Rick Gervais comedy This Side of the Truth.
