'Supernatural' Sixth Season Confirmed!

The Winchester brothers will return for more ghouish adventures
By Robert Falconer | Thursday, January 21, 2010
First it was Smallville, now Supernatural. A couple of days ago we reported that Smallville had been picked up for a tenth season. Industry sources in Vancouver provided CinemaSpy with the tip, indicating that while the official announcement has not yet been made, behind-the-scenes it’s all but a done-deal. Today we’ve been informed that Supernatural, too, has been confirmed with another season, in this case its sixth. The news raises some intriguing conjecture about Supernatural. Season Five had long been touted as the last, with the Winchester brothers finally doing battle against Lucifer during the apocalypse. For a sixth season, what does one do for an encore after slaying Satan?
Creator/producer Eric Kripke has always maintained that the five-year arc would conclude with Sam and Dean confronting the Devil in a final showdown, though he’s also been quick to add that he’s not necessarily out of ideas, either.
Going down the path of speculation, here’s one possibility: the apocalypse story arc could be extended for another season. This might also explain the preponderance of stand-alone episodes already aired this year—many viewers have wondered why the writers have wasted time on these sorts of stories instead of focusing more on end of days themes and the climactic confrontation with Lucifer. The short answer is that it may have been by design.
Another option is that Kripke and the writers dive headlong into the aftermath of Lucifer’s defeat, what it means to the world, and how it impacts on Sam and Dean. What does removing the Devil do to the polarity and balance of the universe? Do penny-ante evildoers ravage the world, with no “dark hierarchy” to keep them in check?
Again, pure speculation.
As an aside, industry insiders have pointed out to CinemaSpy that Smallville, Supernatural and Gossip Girl are the lynchpins of The CW's scripted line-up. Without those shows, the argument goes, the network effectively ceases to exist.
It's an interesting observation.
Meanwhile, Supernatural returns to television tonight with the episode "Sam Interrupted", a clip for which you can watch by using the below player.

I love supernatural. Every time I think it might have run it's course, they pull out something that makes me love the series again. I liked it when they used the Monster of the week formula more, But the new story arc is pretty good and they have done some very creative things throughout the life of the show. I really liked how the four horsemen of this season had cars that represented their horses. I thought that was a really cool detail (And the scene with Death pulling up in the pale Cadillac was an awesome scene).
Long live supernatural!!!

I personally like when a show trickles to an end, because by the time you get to the last season you are ready to stop watching it. I mean if they ended it now it would be like sittin on the toilet and getting back up right before you take a piss; YOU JUST CAN'T DO THAT!!!!! And let me tell you what, if they don't continue with the next season I will freakin go to Hell and drag Sam out myself!
Yaaaaaay! My boys are coming back! :^D

I'm so happy to hear of season six, but I also wonder if it will be as good as the other five, usually when shows do this (Come back after a season finale, or spin offs, wow especially spin offs) it's the same feeling as when Jordan came out of retirement:cool, but never the same. However, supernatural kept it going strong for five years and it was NEVER boring. I have to say that I didn't quite understand the very end of the season 5 finale, but the writers more than likely knew then that they'd be back hence the semi cliff hanger. They should make a movie! Me and my hubby would go see it! :^D
Seasons Finales

Ok guys i like the show to, i like the history and the characters but when the season’s finales come they always get short. Yes it was a good finale on the 5th but it wasn’t the one needed.
1.-What happen whit Bobby’s Souls?
2.-The Battle Michael Vs Lucifer it suppose to destroy half of the world, and when they are standing each other everything was totally normal, in my opinion the sky should have change like a broken sky, the weather should have change miles away around them... something that tells us OMG THE FREAKING WORLD ITS GONA BLOW! But again noting.
3.- Ok Dean comes to talk to his brother wow the power of love. Come on!, its Lucifer not just demon or sprit from season 1 it should has been impossible to get closer of Lucifer alone. Here is here the other character should help Cass and bobby yes, Lucifer kill them that’s cool. But Crowley, Kali, Gabriel should have help as well.
3.- Michael its Archangel so Gabriel he might not as powerful as Michael but he is a archangel, the fight between Gabriel and Lucifer might not destroy half of the planet but it should been some special powers and thunders but no, just the "Archangel sword" that looks like a Archangel knife. If Gabriel was trying to kill him whit a "Sword" why Michael have to do it different? Why can he use his "sword"?
I love the show really but when it comes to Season’s Finale it always the same, they always get short just like HEROES.
BTW, it was the apocalypse and they never put a scene that actually tells that, earthquakes, tsunamis, twister, noting... I think Chicago was destroyed I’m not sure, but no scene of it.

If I had to rate season 5 it would be a solid 8. Loved the premiere, loved the finale although some episodes in mid- season like "The curious case of Dean Winchester" left me indiffernt.
I imagine that Kripke has an ace on his sleeve since he is serious about going for a sixth season, a bold move on his part but too risky.
What could top the Apocalypse story? Maybe the answer lies with Kripkie's words that the new season will focus "on Sam and Dean's relationship".
The finale ended with what it seemed to be Sam's spirit looking at Dean who was enjoying the evening with his new family. This means that the boys will have a talk sooner or later. I read a comment here that Dean will try to bring Sam back to his meatsuit, I'm on board with that.
Another comment stated that Dean leaves a "loose end" to deal with, which means taking revenge on God himnself who (in Dean's opinion)is responsible for all that has happened to Sam.
Maybe seaon 6 will be a mix of both. At any rate the finale seemed a bit rushed to me, leaving huge cliffhangers that beg for another season. Kripke had this planned all along which means season 6 will be awesome altogehter, bring it on!!!!

Dead god
Posted by CTIJIET on May 17th, 3:08am
It will be amusing enough if Dean will find god and will return Sam, or even the Death will conclude the bargain with to return the ring! As the death has told sooner or later to it it is necessary to take away and god! But the truth it will be dullish somehow without Sam!

I hoped that the end of the fifth season will be more brightly developed that has turned out at all that I expected! But I very much like this serial though sometimes and crazy series turn out! I wait and hope for the sixth season!!!

Sam=Spike
Posted by OzziG on May 16th, 12:39pm
Okay, I'm thinking a Spike in Angel deal, but more helpful. so sorta half the season Sam's a ghost tagging along with Dean they find someway to bring Sam back and voila the duo's back.
what about DEATH
Posted by dan on May 16th, 3:52am
in the 5th story, death said that GOD was next on his list to die, so i think that the sixth season might be a plot where death tries to kill god, and who knows who how the story will go hehe.

Dean said in the finale that god was next on his list....... And Sam must come back otherwise it would just be Dean, that would be good but you need the two of them
Future
Posted by Moses on May 14th, 9:30pm
in all honesty with the last episode dean did promise to not try to bring sam back. And if you didn't notice when sam appeared the street lamp shut off which most likely indicated that sam was a spirit. but it would be interesting if they started a thing where dean and lisa had a kid of there own and dean or bobby taught them to hunt. Or somehow show Alister escaping heaven when micheal is in the pit during all the anarchy up there. and have Alister bring his revenge. but whatever Kripke and his writers have done excelent so far
Kudos for Season 6
Posted by Claudia Syx on May 14th, 5:43pm
I was worried that season five would put an end to Supernatural. I am in agreement that after the Apolcalypse what more could there be? But if you stop to think about it, the apolcalypse never really happened. At the end of last nights show, Sam is watching Dean from the outside of the house and I can't help but wonder if God has also brought him back. Following the shows, there was a comment at one time that the 'boys' had been brought back more times then they could remember, which at some point could only make sense considering the war they are fighting. With the prophet winking out in the last episode of this seaons leaves one to wonder if that was where God has been hiding and that he has taken a strong hand in watching over two of his favorites. This leaves one to question if Lucifer is still inside Sammy, or has God purged his bad child from Sam. What happened when he fell into the hole with his brother, and will the new season also bring back the youngest of the Winchesters? Lots of questions and some answers needed, so yes, there is plenty of room for another season. But hopefully the writer will let Dean enjoy a bit of normalcy, if just for a little while. I am a fan..and the eye candy is not bad either! Castiel is one of my favorites, so having him back, at times, would be great. One does have to wonder though, just what could be in store for these youngest warriors of God...??
I Whant more!!

Sixth Season Guess
Posted by Nicci on May 7th, 10:30pm
I'm wondering if the brothers will fail to get Satan back in his cage at the end of the fifth season. Remember when Dean went forward in time to a point where Sam had said "yes" to the devil? What if Sam says "yes" to Satan to try and trick him into the cage, but is unable to get himself back? That would explain why Satan occupies Sam in the future.

hello! me and my wife as and a lot of people in greece we are fans of supernatural. as fan of course i would like to contineu the serial, BUT as a man that i wacth a show i have to say that the shoe must end in 5th season, because, it would be tyring if the producers decide go for next season. i can't find something that will keep the intresting to wacth the show after the brothers kill or put the devil into his prison. this is my oppinion and for more people too in greece i want to believe. thank you and sorry for my english.. it's not too good

i do love supernatural i have wacht it since the first episode i have season 1-4 im currently addicted 2 season 5 but i do rather have it end wit this one cuz i think that the whole idea of killin luciger or just defeat hi is great but wat can be more powerful or more evil that the devil? well noting unless they dont do it in this season it will be fine to do it in season 6 but i think wit the whole dean bn michael vasel and sam bn lucifer and the big fight it will be the best end for the show... and againi love this show but they should not not not do wat they did wit smallwilee cuz they kill that show and supernatural is way to gud to end up like that... love the boys and they are super hot i just hope they dont ruin this great and awsome show...

I am a HUGE fan of Supernatural, but I have to admit, I was in agreement with it ending in the fifth season. I mean, you can't go much further than the Apocolypse!
Of course I will watch the sixth season and any others that come out, but I really hope they don't mess the show up just to get ratings. It's an awesome show and I think Kripke's idea of stopping in its peak was a good one . . . there's nothing worse than your favorite show trickling off to nothing.

If there is a S6 I would love it to focus on the boys and their relationship (with a little Bobby added for good measure), there's been precious little focus on the brothers' relationship this year because of the tedious apocalypse stuff."-It's a good idea

Leave it to a chick to come up with this touchy feely crap for a show on Demon Hunters, screw the whole relationship stuff about the Brothers, leave that Emo Garbage for Stephenie Meyer and Twilight.I dont care about that garbage, and the whole show was built on one thing : Sam's corruption and what it did to the wincester family, the Death of Mary Winchester and the Demon blood in Sam, AND why it all happend and now we know why, we take that away and the show is useless. If they kill Lucifer which is beyond retarded to me, then there is no reason to have a show anymore, I would rather they just end it then.He is the source of all Evil, they kill him, then there's nothing left since they killed off Lilith as well. The whole hunting monsters thing is cool but after a while we need more than that, we need a story with actual substance and Lucifer is the best Villian ever, better than them all.I'd like to see him take Sam as his Vessel and see what happens then.So I'm sorry, but if Kripke does this, he is losing many, many fans and digging his career's grave,Ive stood by the show even when they messed up the folklore and demonized Pagan gods that were good and not Evil, but this is where the line is drawn, he needs to stop pulling stuff out of his Ass and get his S(*@#$ into gear.Period.That's all I'm saying. And if they get rid of the Angels and especially Castiel then what the F*&^$%^ is left then? Just monsters? What? Nothing, NOTHING!!! will be left behind!

I have to say I am THRILLED that "My Boys" will be back for at least 1 more season. I have loved the funny shows, I have loved the heartbreaking moments when you really believed that things would never be the same between the Boys again. The AMAZING ACTING, DIRECTING & WRITING are what make this show the blockbuster it is. I have watched from season 1 and I have seen "My Boys" evolve into incredible actors with amazing range and humor and horror, and emotion, when they cry, I cry, I feel it in my heart. So for ANY of you who "threaten" that if this or that is part of the show or not part of the show, then you are not a fan. A fan is someone who loves a show for what it is, this happens to be a Smokin' Hot Roller Coaster Ride of a show, every week you do not know what you are going to get. I appreciate every character Eric Kripke has created because they are all so 3 dimensional; he does just write characters, he creates people and monsters and makes them REAL. how can you not love that? I can guarantee I will be tuned in or my DVR will be if I am not home to catch every episode. and when the season DVD's come out, they will be part of the rest of my collection (I have all that are currently available). Thank you Eric, Thank Jared and Jensen, and Thank you CW!!!!

I love SPN. And I am ecstatic that they are making new seasons. I don't care if it's with angels or not.
But I'd prefer if they went with this:
"Another option is that Kripke and the writers dive headlong into the aftermath of Lucifer’s defeat, what it means to the world, and how it impacts on Sam and Dean. What does removing the Devil do to the polarity and balance of the universe? Do penny-ante evildoers ravage the world, with no “dark hierarchy” to keep them in check?"
this would be way awesome.

I like the first 3 seasons, dont get me wrong. but going across america killing creatures and looking for the dad is a pretty linear story line. The brothers development and relationships are amazing of course but i adore seasons 4 and 5 with all my heart.
I spose angels vs demons get old, but the backstories and arcs and revelations are amazing and there a moments of most excellent imagination the is amazing!!!!
and Castiel. castiel is love. can understand how some people want him gone. He makes me so happy when he is there. I like the horsemen ideas and the fact the angels are absolute douchebags! its just so not normal. I think it is brilliant and imaginary story lines. its those kind of plot and twists and characters that make me happy.
Angels can go except for anna and castiel. thats all im saying. and find a way to bring chuck in more and bring back JDM

As a fan off Supernatural,it does not matter if the series goes of the track from Dean and Sam killing the Devil. The individual episodes are funny and the coming back and forth of killing Lucifer puts each episode on the edge of your seat, wondering if Sam is going to accept Lucifer as his VESSEL.
Fans who don't want a sixth series, are in my eyes not true fans.Look at Smallville in its tenth series,if there is more humour in Deans and Sams travels so be it so lets all join as loyal fans and support the producers in making one hell of a great storyline.

This is awesome news, I've seen every episode and it hasn't disappointed me at all.
Though I doubt that the angels would return, they would have to deal with the after math and so do the brothers.
They'll be killing as many demons as they can, and the idea of a powerful demon replacing Satan is interesting.

Might not watch if

if Kripke kills off Castiel. I'd be totally done with the show then.
Great news!

I'm thrilled about a 6th season of Supernatural! I love the show, love the guys of course (including Castiel) and it's one of only about two TV shows I make a point of watching. This is great news!
I don't care, all Evil SOBs Must Die!!

As long as there will be new evil SOBs (and I'm sure there always will be) Sam and Dean will be around to kick their asses.
I do agree they should reduce or completely take the angels out completey in season 6, if Lucifer is killed or re-imprisoned by this season's finale.
So I think it's fine that they keep this show going for another season. C'mon?! 6 can't hurt that bad?
Besides thanks to that stupid writer's strike it kinda ruined the 3rd Season.
I was kinda hoping Season 5 would be 28 (22 eps for a standard season plus 6 that couldn't make it to Season 3).
I know... how bout a special made for TV Movie kind of special?
SuperNatural: THE LOST EPISODES
Heck, I'm settled even if Season 6 was at least 6 episodes.

If Kripke ends the whole angels vs. demons storyline and kills Castiel, I am back for season six. I want Sam and Dean hunting monsters for my season six. If Kripke drags out the whole angel arc (which has ruined season 5 IMO), then I am done with Supernatural.

I watch a lot of TV shows, and the only one that still gives me a tingle in my brain and heart when it comes on is SUPERNATURAL. It's not just that Jensen and Jared are handsome guys, but that doesn't hurt. The show never ceases to amaze me with its endless supply of imaginative writing, directing, acting and production values. I became hooked on Sam and Dean Winchester during season 1, and continue to want to know their fates to this very day and beyond. They have become like real people to me, and when they suffer, I do, too! Whatever happens to the Winchester brothers, if their journey ends at season 5 or continues to season 6, this loyal viewer will be right there along for the ride. I just have to find out what happens to my guys!
s6 yeah

I deffinitely want a s6, so I will be on the lookout for the official confirmation. I hope it comes soon cause you rocked the boat with your article here, there are people who think this is the official confirmation. It 's good enough a start and a hope for me, since I'm not really worried.
Season 6. Yea or nay?
Posted by Bev on January 22nd, 7:29pm
SPN was an AMAZING show in season 1, damn good in season 2 and though I still love it, I personally haven't enjoyed seasons 3,4 and 5 as much. The Angels storyline, overall, hasn't thrilled me, but I'd certainly watch a season 6. (Especially if JDM's John were to show up in some miraculous fashion. ;D)

I'm going to repeat what I said over on the 'Smallville' story thread...
Thanks for you comments. There seems to be a lot of conflicting commentary about these two stories floating about, so I want to set the record straight on both pieces of news.
First up, yes, things can and do change at the last moment…so everything is subject to change until "official" announcements are made. And even then, sometimes "official" proclamations aren't always followed—witness the Conan O'Brien / 'Tonight Show' debacle over at NBC.
To our stories: I have had three separate Vancouver sources — all of whom are in positions to know — tell me that 'Smallville' and 'Supernatural' are returning, even though an official announcement hasn’t yet been made. That’s pretty good corroboration, and it’s important to emphasize that I have had no reason to doubt these sources in the past.
A tip: the production boots on the ground — in concert with the major industry unions (i.e. the DGC) — typically hear these things even before the studio / network publicists, who have a vested interest in controlling / managing "the message." And I get that. I really do. I have learned from experience over the years, however, that those within the productions and the unions generally provide far more accurate intel than… well, studios / networks never provide "intel," let's face it.
It should be noted that I received an email last night from someone at Warner publicity asking me to re-title this story as "speculation" only. I replied indicating that I don't believe it to be speculation for the reasons I have alluded to above. I informed the publicist that we would be happy to publish an updated edit to these stories with an official comment from WBTV/The CW. We're still waiting for an email response.
I'll just add this: those of you who are regular readers of CinemaSpy know that the caliber of our staff and content speaks for itself. As far as we're concerned, this is a legitimate story, legitimately reported. As to those who cast aspersions on us for using un-cited sources, well, they wouldn’t be our sources for long if we divulged who they were. To those folks, I would merely say: go out and buy a copy of "All the Presidents Men" and read it.
And to those who simply want to fling pejoratives for the sake of it, well, have at it…we all have thick skins around here.
Now, if I had gone ahead and announced the eleventh and seventh seasons of these shows, then I wouldn't blame you for doubting me. :)
Meanwhile, there is other news to report and other stories to cover, so I will wish you all a great weekend!

Renewed or not renewed that is the question!

There's lots of conflicting stuff flying around today.
Apparently the network has yet to confirm.
Not official yet is still the word.
This comes from on set source today, who certainly would be in the know. You probably all know who!
So still awaiting confirmation apparently.
But here's hoping it's just a formality.

Well, as long as they get all the main players back on board, plus Edlund, I'll be thrilled to see a sixth season. I know that some of the actors, Ackles and Padalecki mostly, were saying how they really wanted to break free and try something new after season 5. But hey, if they're back, then so am I.
This is the best show I've seen in a long time, and the story arc is still strong. There's no reason for this show to end, and I'm glad to see that it isn't.

I'm excited that they are thinking they will have a sixth season. The show is always creative and cutting edge, I'm sure they can work a new storyline to make the show flourish, I have faith in the writers, so far I can't complain about any season, they just keep getting more dynamic!

Kripke has said in recent interviews that the entire apocalypse storyline would DEFINITELY wrap up at the end of the Season 5, regardless of whether or not they get picked up for a season 6. So it will definitely end at Season 5. At the same time, I also remember him saying that if they go into S6, the storyline would go back to what it was in Seasons 1 and 2 - the whole brothers together, saving lives, hunting things, and it does leave the possibility of a new story arc. So don't give up on it yet!

I used to love the show, nowadays it's just ruined. I love Jared and Jensen, but the show isn't the Supernatural I used to watch. I can't watch the Angels (Kripke said there would never be Angels on the show, but he said lots of things that turned out to be false) and all the crap. Good bye, Supernatural, I'll be watching my 1-3 season discs.
Awesome!

Considering Spn was a bubble show for most of its life, it's a joy to hear someone acknowledge that it's one of the CW's Best Scripted Shows. Call it a lynchpin show, call it whatever you want, the fact is that Spn is smartly written with a thought provoking season/story arc. If the boys got season 6, and the stories are still there (which is the only way Krip said he'd do extra seasons), then I for one am jumping for joy!
Mass Congrats to Krip, Krew and our beloved boys.

Rachel, at the end it's the CW's decision. Eric always wanted 5 seasons, but if the CW want 6...there's nothing he can do
And I guess we'll have to wait and see for this ''New generation''...'cause every serie that have one...it's never good...or at least, never as good as the original

I'm not sure about a season 6. It depends on what the premise will be. If the angel arc and Castiel continues to be a part of the show I'm not watching anymore, but if the story goes back to focus on the brothers and they cut way back on all the meta/crack humor I'm in.
Gotta agree with allison

...if you don't like the show, don't watch it anymore. But stop peeing on everyone else's parade. Most of us still love it and would be very, very sad to see it go.
Hey CinemaSpy, does your source have any word on whether Misha Collins will be back next season?

Sir Eric Kripke, Thank you, thank you, thank you!!:) You made my day!:P
I discovered the show just a year ago, and I was very sad to know it'd be over soon :(
I'm glad we'll be able to enjoy another season of this amazing show!:D

This is awesome. I wasnt ready for it to be finished yet.
So season 5 has had its good and not so good points, but it picked up quickly and in my opinion is back on track.
Its unfair to say that a 6th season is "unfortunate news"... the show still has fans that want to see more and just because you dont like it doesnt mean a renewal is bad. No one will force you to watch it.

I'm a little annoyed at all the people gunning for the show to be over; if you don't like it, don't watch it. I, for one, am thrilled that it got renewed! I hope Misha stays on for season 6.
Thank God for the Boys and Kripke

This is unfortunate news. I used to love Supernatural, but it's on its last creative leg. Season 5 has sucked, and Season 6 ain't gonna be pretty, either. After all of Kripke's blathering that he wanted to end on a high note, he should have followed through.
Supernatural Renewed !?!

I know there was speculation on a sixth season renewal. Knowing the amazing cast and crew six will be incredible, as usual. This is wonderful news. I am a happy camper.
