Exclusive: Smallville Season 10 Confirmed!
Official announcement could come within two weeks

Fans of The CW series Smallville take note: industry sources inform CinemaSpy that the show has been renewed for a tenth season, and that the official announcement is probable before the end of January — possibly to be made on the Vancouver sets — when Peter Roth, President of Warner Bros. Television will visit the Warner-produced shows Smallville, Supernatural...and Fringe.

The media has been speculating for the past few days that the series would come back for a tenth season, with Tom Welling purportedly already signed on. CW President Dawn Ostroff recently told Entertainment Weekly, "I’m really pleased with the show. Creatively, I think they’ve done a great job. And the ratings are strong on Friday night. I have to commend the producers… It’s not easy in season 9 to keep a show fresh. And you know what I think? The fans have really liked the show this season. I don’t know which way we’ll go."

So with a tenth season in the offing, it will be interesting to see how the writers keep the material fresh. I’ve been critical of Smallville the past two years, believing that the powers-that-be have taken the character in a direction that is too far removed from its familiar roots. Despite these misgivings — certainly shared by other readers — the overall ratings have been back in ascension, and the remainder of this ninth season will introduce more characters & costumes from the DC multiverse, along with the return of Martha Kent—Entertainment Weekly reports today that Annette O’Toole has inked a deal to reprise her role as Clark’s mom later this season.

Smallville is just like The Bolt. A soapserie. The plots are so dumb! Only kids can watch this shit.
Season 10 and more seasons

There are enough ingredients, as you have those marvel comics. I am very pleased with the season and longing to see more and better futuristic stuff. I only do hope they will go further and not end with season 10, but progress better than the serial Lois and Clark. Do not understand it wrong. But there is a lot to go on...

I just love this series. I have watched since day one. And people may say that the writers already had run out of good stories, but i think is the contrary. Of course there are some boring episodes just like any show, but i actually like more of the last seasons than the first ones.
10th season should really be the last....
Posted by Dyana on April 26th, 6:04pm
maybe people don't have anything better to do on friday nights.. :P just kidding...well, I was a big fan of smallville, but i think it's becoming a little boring...they try to extend a whole season and so there were some really boring episodes....as a fan i think they should get on with it and develop the story already, so that the show could end while it still has people watching....cause when a series lasts for too long, it eather has to have really good content on most episodes or it just becomes annoying and leavs the screen in a really bad way.......long story short, i think it should end before everyone gets tired of it...which it appears not to take too long...

Smallville is a great show. Of course, like with any show, there are bad and good episodes but I am glad they are going for season 10. I'll be watching!
Bleh....
Posted by Jaymee on April 3rd, 1:50am
Smallville is only a great show because its foundation is the superman story and everyone loves superman, however as each season goes on the story lines become more random and away from the main event..... so it drags on for ages with so many random eposides that tell us very little until the last few mins then we have to see the next and wait 3 or 4 episodes for an explination. We have basicly had 15 shows of randomness then everything is pushed in to the last episode of the season leaving us with yet more questions.

Killing off lex was a misteak as now the only way to go is with a very cheesy and pointless ending where everything has to go back in time to make it all fit, so clarks real identity is not known by lex or lois.

here is season 10 if its the last....
after cleark is rid of zod... it will go bleh bleh bleh bleh bleh random episodes bleh bleh bleh.... clark uses the ring to go back in time to create a presant where lex is alive an no one is aware of who he really is... the end.

BORING!!!!

Il still watch it though just to see what lame stuff they do, but to be fair its become very pradicable and you can tell whats going to happen next.

The high ratings are not because the show is good but because people who watched the show when it was good in season 3 and 4 are hoping for a good decent ending to a show show about a figure that they love so much.

high ratings are simply because we want to know what happens in the END thats all - draging it out anymore is simply desroying what was once an amazing tv show.

JUST GIVE US THE END!! STOP MESSING IT UP AND MAKING IT POOP WITH RANDOM STORY LINES AN GIRLS WITH BIG BOOBS.

and if its that clark travels back in time to fix things an make it so lex is alive in the presant, then theres no way im buying the dvd boxsets when they come out.
SMALLVILLE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

the show is great, i hope he can finally fly. they should not cancel it, the only acceptable thing to do would be, to maybe change it from smallville to metropolis, and move forward to the next chapter with the same characters :) awsome show. i watched it since day 1, and will continue to watch it. GO season 10!!! for the haters your all a bunch of clowns
HELL YES!!!!
Posted by SMALLVILLEROX on February 21st, 4:55pm
I think a tenth season is a great idea. The show is amazing this season and so much is happening with Zod and the other kandorians that ending it now is WAY too soon! And also everyone who says that the charecters are too different then they should be: SMALLVILLE IS A RE-IMAGINING OF THE SUPERMAN MYTHOLOGY! IT'S A NEW TAKE ON THE STORY!
In My opinion the charecters are finally where they SHOULD be: Clark's not pining for Lana, and he's with Lois! Chloe isnt getting almost every episode and she has a real role with another charecter besides Clark. I love Smallville and I think season 10 would be what the show needs at the moment.
Yeah I said it.

It's fucking hilarious to see comments from some of the Superman comic fans. I think you guys are idiots. I myself am I Superman comic reader, but I don't go around spreading stupid pathetic shit about how Smallville sucks. Not everyone think it sucks.

I can't even talk to half the Superman comic book fans with out wanting do a few facepalms. You guys remind me of a bunch high class rich kids who are spoiled. You think your word matters because you guys are comic readers, and there for if you don't like the show, then everyone else should follow.

You guys are fucking whine babies. Instead of enjoying Smallville you knit-pick at the most ridiculous shit I've ever heard of. Fucking enjoy it, and stop whining.

Lastly, do you want some cheese with that whine?

And wow at the amount of curse words I used. Never did that before. Sweet.

Men boi, its sooo true, they need to make a movie where all the villains and the heroes go OFFICIAL!! you are soo right too about when SmallVille ends it will be exactly as u said "It'll feel like the end of the world" We need to create a group that supports the OFFICIAL movie of SmallVille!! right?? and in that same group tell that they should do even more SEASONS where the main actors still on the SEASONS!! and more kool actors!!! HELL YEA!!! XD
Smallville is the best tv show indeed!!!!

Nothing about smallville is unlikeable.... I think all the actors in the show are sooo great including Zod! It's just so cool... It'll feel like the end of the world when Smallville ends...... THey'll have to make a movie for it like a real movie where all these heroes in the show go official lol... that would've been awesome!

Perhaps you misinterpreted my point. Allow me to clear up your confusion: I said "...that the powers-that-be have taken the character in a direction that is too far removed from its familiar roots."

I never said that the series didn't depart somewhat from established canon from the very beginning. I'm saying they've diverted MUCH too far from it in recent years, IMO.

Others disagree with me, and will point out that if you read the contemporary comics, you'll actually find 'Smallville' story elements occasionally borrow from those...and they can oftentimes be quite a departure from Superman's most familiar touchstones.
WOW!! SMALLVILLE IS LIKE SO AWESOME!!!

My family and I have been watching Smallville for about a year and half. We just finished season 8 about 30 minutes ago. We love the show and can't wait til season 9 is out on DVD. Yes we each have differant charters we like and dislike. I grew up with superman comics and I am woundering when superman will fly. Not really superman if he can't fly. Also, Allison Mack is everyone's favorite and she also does a good job directing. So please don't kill her off!
Should have read it twice
Posted by Glenda on January 30th, 8:30pm
Well Robert I guess I should have read your article twice before I posted my comment. You have only been critial for the last 2 seasons? Are you kidding me? The reason stated is because they have departed too far from the familiar roots? I guess you didn't watch the first seven seasons because if you had you would have realized that they departed from the start, Lex from the first, lana more than a highschool sweetheart and Chloe the side kick???? Well, you have as much credibility now as Susanne Gomez. I hope the so called Smallvile insiders who shot their mouths off to you have learned some important lessons in all of this. Probably not though. This web site is a great idea but it should be run by someone with some professional credibility which you sir are sadly lacking.

Well it's pretty obvious that some of the lunatic's from the CW forum site are here. It's a dead giveway with some of the childish crap that comes out of their mouth's. Really you guys have way too much time of your hands. Go volunteer somewhere and get some help for the mental health issues you obviously have. Sorry Robert that you don't like the show, I believe that Smallville brings quite a bit of money and work into Vancouver, maybe you should be a little more supportive to some of your "fans". You know the ones that are helping you to pay your bills. That said I grew up with Superman and Lois Lane and the comics. They are always evolving, as long as they keep the key parts I can go along with it. Season Nine has been great so far, and I am now a regular viewer. Wasn't before, I am way too old for teenage angst. There are six of us, all adult's way over the age of consent and we now all watch live or DVR. I hope they do renew for Season 10. I am sure Robert that people working on the set would want it to. Though why anyone would confide in someone that doesn't like the show is beyond me. Susanne Gomez needs her ass fired. I always thought she stunk at her job and that has now been confirmed. Never put anything in writing that you may want to take back later.

to all haters if you all dont like the show. dont watch it and you dont consider yourself a superman fan since you dont like the show. reason is low ratings is because is on fridays. before used to be on thursdays. but dawn wanted the show to die because it has both male and female viewers. she wants the network to only be a girls network. why you think she scrapped the aquaman pilot. because guys would be watching it as well.

This circumstance has shined a spotlight on something that independent entertainment journalists must deal with every day.

The relationship between media (yes, including independent publishers) and studios / networks is an interesting — and unique — one. They're happy to send out clips and promotional materials to webmasters at various sites, reveling in the free publicity it generates for their product.

For example, every day I get inundated by spam emails from NBC, wanting me to post their clips for this and that. Sometimes, they even have the gall to send out banner ads to us in the hopes that we will give them free [valuable] advertising space on the site. Blows me away. They MUST get how the web works. On the other hand, maybe they don't. Maybe that's one of the reasons NBC is in such trouble.

Yet — and I'm speaking in general terms here, not targeting any one studio / network — too often when one requests an interview or screener, or some other "exclusive," they suddenly become tone deaf, unwilling to support your coverage of their shows.

So it becomes a bit repellent when they suddenly clamor for attention because you've done some genuine reporting that they couldn't control / vet. The idea that it cannot be true unless they say so is ridiculous. As the stakeholders, they want to control the message — which is understandable — yet in no other field in which journalists work would stifling of independent reporting be tolerated by news gatherers.

Fake, Robert addressed that particular tweet.. Believe what you will, but the story is obviously NOT fake when it's corroborated by 3 different sources.

Perhaps these sources are playing this site, who knows. Or got their information wrong.

But the push back on this story has been interesting to say the least.

For what it's worth, I need more than an unprofessional tweet from a WB publicist to discount this report.

Professionalism
Posted by Robert (Admin) on January 22nd, 6:52pm
Yeah, I'm a little bewildered at Suzanne Gomez' lack of professionalism in that tweet. For those who don't know who Suzanne is, she's the publicist at The CW responsible for both 'Smallville' and 'Supernatural'.

What's interesting is that she left me a voicemail around about the same time that she made that tweet. I wasn't at my desk and only recently retrieved the voicemail. But now having read that tweet, I most assuredly won't be calling her back.

I dunno. Perhaps she's having a bad day.

Perhaps I don't care.

No, make that definite - I don't care.
So, Season 11 and 12 are a go?

Some of these folks need to learn to use twitter responsibly if they are representing professional organizations. The over the top response aimed at this site and the reporter were not befitting a network publicist,it was unprofessional to say the least.

A simple "nothing has been decided yet" from these folks would have sufficed.

Thanks for your response Robert. I see it must take thick skin to do what you do. It's much appreciated by many. Have a good weekend too.
Hey everyone...
Posted by Robert (Admin) on January 22nd, 5:32pm
Thanks for you comments. There seems to be a lot of conflicting commentary about these two stories floating about, so I want to set the record straight on both pieces of news.

First up, yes, things can and do change at the last moment…so everything is subject to change until "official" announcements are made. And even then, sometimes "official" proclamations aren't always followed—witness the Conan O'Brien / 'Tonight Show' debacle over at NBC.

To our stories: I have had three separate Vancouver sources — all of whom are in positions to know — tell me that 'Smallville' and 'Supernatural' are returning, even though an official announcement hasn’t yet been made. That’s pretty good corroboration, and it’s important to emphasize that I have had no reason to doubt these sources in the past.

A tip: the production boots on the ground — in concert with the major industry unions (i.e. the DGC) — typically hear these things even before the studio / network publicists, who have a vested interest in controlling / managing "the message." And I get that. I really do. I have learned from experience over the years, however, that those within the productions and the unions generally provide far more accurate intel than… well, studios / networks never provide "intel," let's face it.

It should be noted that I received an email last night from someone at Warner publicity asking me to re-title this story as "speculation" only. I replied indicating that I don't believe it to be speculation for the reasons I have alluded to above. I informed the publicist that we would be happy to publish an updated edit to these stories with an official comment from WBTV/The CW. We're still waiting for an email response.

I'll just add this: those of you who are regular readers of CinemaSpy know that the caliber of our staff and content speaks for itself. As far as we're concerned, this is a legitimate story, legitimately reported. As to those who cast aspersions on us for using un-cited sources, well, they wouldn’t be our sources for long if we divulged who they were. To those folks, I would merely say: go out and buy a copy of "All the Presidents Men" and read it.

And to those who simply want to fling pejoratives for the sake of it, well, have at it…we all have thick skins around here.

Now, if I had gone ahead and announced the eleventh and seventh seasons of these shows, then I wouldn't blame you for doubting me. :)

Meanwhile, there is other news to report and other stories to cover, so I will wish you all a great weekend!

tv guide and the cw folks are maligning this site (saying this is not accurate reporting) with these tweets:

"chico6 Hey guys, real reporters fact check. Tired of these wannabes stating their fiction as truth. Stick 2 sites that respect u fans. Boycott rest"

I love Smallville! I think Tom Welling is a great Clark Kent and I hope that he takes on more of leardership role in the next season. I am not a fan of the other characters, however. Chloe is far too self-righteous and the Green arrow should keep his shirt on. The character is far too arrogant.

I hope this is true. This season has been great, and if Smallville does get a tenth season, it will then tie Stargate SG-1 as the longest running sci-fi show in the United States, and actually beat it in the number of episodes. If it is renewed, I think 10 will be the final season though. Of course, I thought the 7th, 8th, and 9th seasons would be last when they started, so who knows

Um who says Smallville ratings are in ascendant? Pandora mustered under 3 million. Ratings are generally mediocre and only jumps if the costumed DCU members come on board. I hope they do something more like a Justice League thing cause all the shipping and triangles are sickening. Superman needs to stop being so emo and don the darn costume and flipping fly.

Crude, rude, and inappropriate comments will not make your case against Smallville. It is a fantastic show, with millions of loyal fans throughout the world. If it were truly a joke within the DC Universe, would Geoff Johns be involved with it? No! Tom Welling is the best Clark Kent ever, and I can't wait for him to become a full-fledged Superman. I hope he brings the character to the big screen as well. Perhaps the haters should give it another chance and watch the two hour Geoff Johns Smallville movie on February 5th. It's going to be great!

Mmh ok can't say I'm particularly thrilled seeing how they sometimes wander away from the true story of Superman, but I'll continue to watch it anyways.
Think it was better when Lex was still there, I loved Michael Rosembaum and they'll have to make him live again at one point. I'm getting bored of Zod, he keeps disappearing and reappearing in the plot.
This show is not Smallville anymore, it's Metropolis, although I guess Clark does have to grow at one point.
I think one of the most apparent flaws is his reaction to Kryptonite. He sometimes blanks out because he's near a very little fragment, and sometimes manages to fight even when surrounded by liters of liquid kryptonite.

And please make him fly if they finish season 9 and CK's still grounded I'm gonna bang my head against walls.

For Real?

Like I just saw this at Fuck you_comics and the LULz @ the outrage there kinda made me hope there would be a bloodbath here.

*is dissapointed*

Guess no one really cares.
If this is true though, and Smallville gets a new season It'll be a bummmer. That show brings shame to the DC!verse. I was really counting in it to die and be forgotten.

All I see in the forums is "Clois this...& Chlark that...Clana rules... and ChloeIsIconicLoisLane" like everywhere.

Makes me wonder. is people actually paying attention to how dumb the "plots" in this shitty show are? Seems it's all about who gets into CK's pants. Though for what I've been told he's a manwhore so all shippers should be happy.

Plus I just YouTube-ed a couple scenes and Red & Blue Blur? ROFLMAO Are you guys fucking kidding me? Is any of the motherfucking writers even reading the material's source? Like SV!Lois or Nois as I've read her being called (hahahaha)is an old whore. Clark acts like a cheap thug and that blonde chick is not oracle. So stop tryng to make it happen.

It's not.

SMALLVILLE SUCKS.

The butt-rape that is Smallville will leave to see a season ten? Fucktastic. I don't know what I hate more about this how the stupid dialogues, the violation of DC!Characters or how much promised it used to have.

This better be fake because Smallville needed to die yesterday.
Speechless

I really hope this turns out to be untrue. Smallville has reached a new level of low when it comes to belieable plots and character development this current season.

Thanks for pointing out how obvious the lightswitchs are. Which by the way drove half the hardcore fanbase away. S10 is a delusion.
YEAH, RIGHT.

S9 has suck so much it's ridiculous. Every important character suffered awful retcons. I'll believe Smellville is renewed when the announcement is OFFICIALLY made 'till then I won't lose hope this FAIL show will die.

Thanks for sharing this "Scoop" though :)

Season 10

What are you talking about? Who cares if it's removed from the character's 'fimiliar routes'? It's been that way since the shows inception. The last two seasons have been far more entertaining than all that high school teen angst crap! Roll on Season 10!
YEAH!!!

Such a great show...every year just gets better and more intense. Great writing and believable character development. Way to GO!

I really hope this is true. Season 9 of Smallville has been absolutely fantastic. I would love to see it come back for a 10th season.

im really happy to see the show come back for a tenth season i thought that after killing off lex luthor it wouldnt be good any more, but the producers have done a fantastic job with getting more villians and bringing back clarks father and even bringing back General ZAUD. thank you Smallville writers producers and all who help the show become the great show it is today
