ABC Reportedly Courting '2012' Television Series
Because the movie disaster just isn't enough

2012 director Roland Emmerich has told Entertainment Weekly that a TV version of his upcoming disaster movie is already in development. Mark Gordon (Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice) is on board to executive produce.

According to EW, Gordon is rumored to be in talks with ABC for the disaster drama.

"The plan is that it is 2013 and it's about what happens after the disaster," Emmerich told EW. "It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating."

Emmerich says he told Gordon: "Why don’t you do a TV show that picks up where the movie leaves off and call it 2013?’ I think it will focus on a group of people who survived but not on the boats ... maybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving. There are so many possibilities of what they could do and I’d be excited to watch it."

The idea of survivors of the ultimate apocalypse does sound intriguing, and it also sounds like it could be an elaborate production. What do you think? Is a decimated world one you'd like to visit? Let us know below.

Don’t name the show “2013" as “2011" will be worse than “2012" as “1941" was worse than “1776,” and bla-bla-bla-blah. As people lose their jobs in this economy they won’t be interested in watching pitiful humans trying to survive in a world where the last unemployment office has been closed indefinitely. I say dump this idea and do a comedy sitcom about an internet website trying to sell ad space for surviving through “2010.”
