We know what you're thinking: another day, another Captain America wannabe tosses his hat in the ring (why should today be any different, right?). This time it's 26-year-old, Romanian-born actor Sebastian Stan (Hot Tub Time Machine) whose name has been dropped, according to a new report over at Entertainment Weekly. The 26 year-old actor is reportedly part of the widespread — and thus far fruitless — search for the right actor to play the title role (is it really this tough?).

On the other hand, maybe what this means is that director Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) and the studio are really taking their time to get just the right guy.

They'd better. After all of this, if the new Captain America comes up short with his stars and stripes — if ya know what we're saying — folks is gonna be mighty unforgiving.

EW is also reporting that Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy) is no longer attached to the film.

The current list of actors in contention for the title role allegedly consists of Mike Vogel (Cloverfield), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), Wilson Bethel (The Young and the Restless), Dane Cook, Ryan Phillippe, Channing Tatum and now Sebatian Stan.

EW speculates that this particular role is pivotal, given that Captain America is considered a kind of father figure to the rest of the Avengers. We'd also add that standing side-by-side an actor of Robert Downey Jr.'s expertise and talent requires an actor who can hold his own...especially for the Captain America part. So once again, maybe this process deserves to be handled carefully.

A decision does need to come soon, given that Johnston is scheduled to begin filming in June for a July 22, 2011 release.
