Willem Dafoe and the 'Spider-Man' Franchise
More Green Goblin? Don't bet on it.

At the end of the day, we're not sure there's even a story here, because if there is, it strikes us a story about nothing. Here's how it goes: MTV speaks to Willem Dafoe. Dafoe acknowledges that his return to the 'Spider-Man' franchise as Green Goblin "isn't exactly a certainty" (when was it ever even under consideration?). Then Dafoe remarks that he "think(s) it's possible." Sure, flying cars are possible, too...but no-one expects them anytime soon, if ever.
Dafoe's return to the franchise is problematic, chiefly because of his character's death in the first Spider-Man. And while Dafoe has reprised the role in the two subsequent outings as a mirror-bound apparition seen by his son, Harry...with Harry dead as well, there's no realistic way to resurrect the Goblin—assuming Raimi even wanted to in the first place.
"I think it's possible," Dafoe told MTV, adding, "But I haven't heard anything."
No, and we don't think you will, either, Willem. We suspect that ship has sailed.
