To Ghostbusters or Not to Ghostbusters?
Is the third installment eyeing a summer 2010 production start?

Truthfully, it's hard to gauge what the contemporary public's thoughts are concerning another Ghostbusters sequel. On the one hand, the new Ghostbusters 3 video game seems to have amped up the desire of fans to see another adventure on the big screen, and yet the only folks who ever seem to talk about another sequel are the original film's actors (Columbia brass are noticeably quiet most of the time…at least officially).Chatter about a third film has been ongoing for many months now, yet no substantive announcements have been made. Of course, that hasn't stopped Dan Aykroyd from talking about his spec screenplay, and now, Harold Ramis has revealed to Heeb magazine that Ghostbusters 3 will begin filming during the summer, with a 2011 release date eyed.
"Something's going to happen," he said. "Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We'll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future ... GB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011."
Since Columbia hasn't stepped forward to confirm this, we'd probably take it with a grain of salt, since "…there seems to be some willingness to proceed…" doesn't really refer to any entity specifically…though it may mean talks are underway.
