Paramount Pictures is planning a sequel to Paranormal Activity, which cost less than $15K to make and returned a whopping $84.6M in ticket sales.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CEO Philippe Dauman said Tuesday morning in Viacom's earnings call that the movie has been one of those surprise hits that comes along only rarely.

Given that a follow-up film wouldn't have the same element of surprise as Paranormal, it will be key to craft a smart approach to a sequel, he contended. "Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach."

According to the trade, when asked by an analyst if the Paranormal model of a low-cost, high-box office film could be easily replicated with other releases, Dauman said no, citing the amount of time that had passed between The Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity.
