More 'Amityville Horror' on the Way
Which part of this story is the real horror?

Back in 2005, Platinum Dunes released a remake of the 1979 film The Amityville Horror starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George. Budgeted at $19M, it was a reasonably inexpensive effort that made a tidy gross of $108M internationally. So what does that mean? Why, that it's time for another remake, of course. According to Bloody-Disgusting, the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are planning to remake The Amityville Horror once again and are already in-talks with a director to develop the project.
In the 2005 film, George Lutz (Reynolds), his wife Kathy (George) and their three children move into a house that was the site of a grisly mass-murder only a year earlier. They decide to keep the house until they begin to be terrorized by demonic forces. George starts to behave weirdly and their daughter, Chelsea (Chloë Grace Moretz), starts to see ghastly things. What follows is 28 days of sheer terror for the family.
So, we're now remaking films from four years ago. While we understand the popularity of horror films (they're the single most profitable genre right now)...and we get Hollywood's proclivity for remakes, isn't it a little soon for a remake of a remake? Bit of a horrifying prospect, if you'll embrace the double entendre.
Next up: remakes to sequels of remakes.
