Kiefer Sutherland remains confident feature will happen

Two years ago it was widely reported that a feature film version of 24 was in the works, set to go into production as soon as the series completed its run…whenever that was. Many thought that the show had already perpetuated far too much of a good thing beyond its second season, and that it wouldn't translate well to the big screen without being forced to jettison the ticking clock gimmick that had made the series so successful. In other words, a bit of a catch 22.

Regardless of how you may feel about the idea, it's apparently still alive. According to Kiefer Sutherland, the cast and writers of 24 are determined to make a feature film version of the series. Speaking with The Press Association during a break in filming the FOX series, Sutherland joked, "We've been perpetuating the rumor for years!"

And still are, apparently. The actor added that if a film version is confirmed, London and Europe could be the logical setting.

"We've wanted to film all around Europe,"
he said. "I think one of the great things about Europe, especially if you're going to do something where a two-hour film represents 24 hours, then it's very feasible to get from Eastern Europe to London in seven hours."

"It doesn't eat up all the time. Whereas if you're doing 24 episodes and you're trying to get, even from Miami to Washington, that's four episodes on a plane and people stop watching!" Sutherland laughed.

"Europe has been something that we've all talked about as an opportunity for the film," he added, "which unfortunately just has not presented itself for us in the show."

We're not sure what they have in mind, but on a personal note, the only way I can see a feature film version of 24 working is if they give it the same attention and detail as the 'Bourne' franchise—a smart, taught story, but with some wicked twists.

Do you have any interest in a 24 feature film, or are you done with this franchise already? Let us know below.

Meanwhile, to check out FOX's promo video for 24, click on the Video tab at the top of this page. The series returns to FOX on January 17 at 9/8c, and features the additions of Katie Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire), Mykelti Williamson, and Freddie Prinze Jr.

I love 24 as well, but I belong in the group who says 24 isn't made to be a movie. 2 hours isnt for it.

Unless it really is the end of 24. Short climax of everything
bring it to Europe

Brilliant show, must admit I was a bit disappointed with season 6 but season 7 has renewed my interest. There are a lot of 24 fans over this side of the pond but because of the way the show works the UK and Europe can't really feature, so setting a film over here would be great.
I can't wait for season 8!
Totally agree

I want to see a film too, and they better not even DREAM of anyone other than Kiefer playing Bauer. Without him the show doesn't exist.

But I do like the idea of making it sort of Bourne-ish. That would give it the big screen feel it would need.
future of 24

Of course I want to see a movie of 24. I would say to Fox TV, remember that Kiefer Sutherland IS 24. Without him there is no 24.
I never want to see anyone else play the role. Kiefer was born to play Jack Bauer.
