Grant Morrison-Based Film to Star...Grant Morrison
Documentary could debut at 2010 Comic-Con International

There aren’t many comic book writers who might also be household names: Grant Morrison, Alan Moore, and Frank Miller come to mind. Maybe Brian K. Vaughan is a little further down the list. But right now, there seem to be more of them than at any other time in recent history, and one is about to break new ground as the subject of his own movie.According to MTV’s Splash Page, director Patrick Meaney has prepared an as-of-yet untitled documentary about the life and career of Grant Morrison. The Scottish-born writer — who took some of DC Comics’ prize properties to new heights, and later created popular, mature audience-themed titles for DC’s Vertigo imprint — took part in a lengthy interview as part of the film.
Morrison’s credits include "The Invisibles", a successful re-launch of the Justice League of America called "JLA", and DC Comics’ recent companywide event "Final Crisis". Meaney, however, believes Morrison is on track for even greater recognition, what with a number of feature films based on his comics in the pipeline.
"Most 'civilians' that I talk to about the project still don’t know who Grant Morrison is," Meaney told Wired, "but [Alan] Moore is definitely a name they recognize, as is Frank Miller. I feel like we could soon be seeing a bunch of Morrison film projects in the not-too-distant future."
If Meaney’s film looks at comic book writers as the next big wave of cinematic idea-men, he couldn’t have found a better individual subject than Morrison, who has lived life as hard as many an iconic rock star. In interviews, he’s admitted to experimenting with drugs and alternative methods of thinking.
"I think his story’s fascinating. There’s no one out there as interesting to talk to as Grant Morrison," Meaney said.
Pending the subject’s full authorization, the documentary is reportedly scheduled to debut at San Diego Comic-Con International in July 2010, but clips are already viewable at Wired.

I thought you might also be interested in a webseries that Respect Films is producing called The Third Age. It’s something of a psychedelic sci-fi, and is largely influenced by Morrison’s work. It definitely has some magical elements that are an important part of the show. You can see all the episodes at http://www.thethirdagebegins.com
Would love to hear what you think.
