There’s a new version of "Sleeping Beauty" in the works, but it’s aimed more at adults than children.Emily Browning, who just completed filming a role in Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch, will star in Julia Leigh’s directorial debut, described as a haunting erotic fairy tale about a student who drifts into prostitution.
According to The Playlist, the main protagonist sleeps, drugged, in a "Sleeping Beauty chamber" while men do various things to her that she doesn’t remember the next morning.
Sounds pretty dark, but it might be interesting to see where Leigh goes with the story. Mia Wasikowska, who stars in Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice in Wonderland, was at one time attached, but Browning replaces her.
Production of Sleeping will begin in Australia next month on a budget of approximately $10M.
Browning might be best known for playing Violet Baudelaire in the 2004 film Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.
