Sanctuary is one of the most successful television exports to come out of Canada. The title refers to an institute run for the purpose of providing refuge for mutant creatures that roam our world without our knowledge or humanity's respect. Sanctuary started life as as a series of Webisodes produced independently by Stage 3 Media in Vancouver. It subsequently won the Guinness World Record for Highest Budget for a Direct-to-Web Broadcast.

The series was created by Damian Kindler (Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis) and the Webisodes were directed by Martin Wood (Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis). The principal cast included two other Stargate alumni, Amanda Tapping and Christopher Heyerdahl. Tapping plays Dr. Helen Magnus, who runs the Sanctuary, and Heyerdahl is John Druitt (a.k.a. Jack the Ripper), her former lover and the series principal 'villain'.

Due to the success of the Webisodes, Sanctuary was picked up as a series by The Movie Network in Canada and Syfy in the United States. Kindler, Wood, Tapping and Heyerdahl continued their roles, as did other members of the original cast and creative team including Robin Dunne (who play's Magnus' assistant, Will Zimmerman), Emilie Ullerup (cast as Ashley, Magnus' daughter) and Ryan Robbins (who plays Magnus' logistical expert, Henry Foss).

Sanctuary is filmed almost entirely against a green screen using the ultra-High Definition Red One camera. CinemaSpy.com recently visited the 'sets' of Sanctuary, where the company responsible for replacing the green backgrounds with Sanctuary's world presented an impressive demo reel showcasing some of the effects viewers will see in Season 2. Sanctuary is the first Internet series to make the transition to television and be picked up for a second season. Season Two premieres tonight on Syfy in the United States and on SPACE in Canada. Check your local listings for times. For a preview of the new season, click the Trailer tab above.

Requiem was my favorite from season one. You know that he would have to kill her to kill the parasite, but when he actually did and it came out of her ear as a single entity was awesome. I do wish they would have shown he parasite being placed in a specimen jar for further analysis, but I don't guess you can have everything.
great show
